Golden Jubilee for former Newry curate

June 2, 2009

One of the best known priests in the diocese of Dromore, Fr Anthony Davies, celebrates the Golden Jubilee of his ordination this week.

Fr Davies, who was ordained in St Peter’s, Wexford in 1959, served for many years as a curate in Newry before his current appointment as parish priest of Clonduff. He was later appointed Dean of the Diocese.

Fr Davies was renowned for his interest in sport and while in Newry contributed two trophies, one to soccer and the other to gaelic, the Fr Davies Shield and the Fr Davies Cup.

Ever popular with the people for his approachability and genuine concern, his golden jubilee occasion will be acknowledged, in particular, by the parishioners of his former Newry parish.
