Armagh GAA Round-up

June 30, 2009

DIVISION ONE

Mullaghbawn 0-13 Pearse Og 1-12

Plenty of entertainment in this one with three red cards issued and some good football played. The visitors took an early lead and despite the best efforts of the home team the best they could manage was to draw level with 7 minutes remaining. The game was won and lost immediately after Maullaghbawn levelled at 11 all, having trailed 7-6 at half time as the visitors were awarded a needless penalty as the attackers options seemed limited and well covered by the keeper. Conor Clarke converted to give Og’s a goal cushion but despite reducing the arrears to the minimum an equalizer never came as the visitors finished the scoring deep into stoppage time.

Dromintee 0-09 Carrickcruppin 3-10

It was all too easy for the visitors who led by 5 points at the interval aided by a Declan Campbell goal. With the home side reliant on frees to stay afloat, further goals from Seamus Kane and Declan Monaghan steered Cruppen to their fifth win and up to joint third in the table four points above the relegation zone they languished in a few weeks back.

Cullaville 0-11 Clan na Gael 1-10

What a change in fortunes in the league for these teams. Four matches into the campaign Culloville were 7 points clear of their opponents.  The the Blues have not picked up a point as Clans, regarded as relegation certainties back then, have now accumulated 9 points following this their fourth league win. It seems that the Culloville scoring touch has eluded them which is causing them the most trouble.

Crossmaglen 4-13 Sarsfields 4-06

A few rarities at the home of the champions as they found themselves six points down early on and wound up conceding four goals in this top versus bottom of the table match. It took a late goal first half goal from Jamie Clarke to allow Cross lead by two points at the interval. Second half goals from Mickey McNamee, Oisin McConville and Francis Hanratty saw off a gallant Sarsfields who helped themselves to two more goals in the second half.

Killeavy 0-10 St.Patricks 0-10

A Raymie Teggart converted free in stoppage time gave Killeavy a draw in a match that looked to have in it the bag, with twenty minutes to go as they held a 9-3 lead. It was double scores at half-time 6-3 with the visitors posting 9 wides. St Pat’s found their scoring boots to rattle off 7 points unanswered to take the lead only to be denied by the twelfth converted free of the match shared evenly between both teams.

DIVISION TWO

Double for Maghery keeps them 4 points clear

Maghery 2-12 Madden 0-10 Tir na nOg 0-11 Maghery 0-12

A quick fire double for Maghery keeps them 4 points clear of second placed Whitecross. The unbeaten league leaders overcame the handicap of suspended and injured players to easily see off Madden. It was a different story against Tir Na Nog where a free ridden robust encounter took place. Despite being numerically disadvantaged the home side dominated the second half yet came out the wrong end of the result. Nine second half wides certainly put paid to the chances of the 14 players against the league leaders.

Madden 0-05 Whitecross 2-16

A bad weekend for mid-table Madden as they took on the top two teams in the division and got well beaten in both matches. At least away at Maghery they were able to double their scoring tally than that got at home to Whitecross who are going great guns at present notching 2-16 for their ninth win from 10 starts to keep up with the league pacesetters.

St.Michaels 2-14 Silverbridge 2-14

The scoring touch certainly returned for both teams as they produced a 32 scores thrilling draw which belies their current low league positions. Second half goals from Colm Conlon and late one from top scorer Liam Campbell helped Silverbridge overturn a 7 point deficit to gain a point in this relegation battle which still leaves both fighting to get away from the danger zone.

Ballyhegan 1-07 Armagh Harps 3-09

A welcome win for Harps against a Ballyhegan side that is currently second from bottom and in danger of relegation. Only 5 points separates the bottom six teams in the division so a couple of back to back wins can make an awful lot of difference. Harps one of the title favourites from the outset currently trail the league leaders by a massive 11 points.

Wolfe Tone 0-06 Clann Eireann 1-12

A fifth league win for Clann Eireann was never an issue as they gained the initiative from the outset against a struggling Wolfe Tones side who are third from bottom a point above the relegation places.

DIVISION THREE

Share of points in middle league encounter

Tullysarran 0-12 Clonmore 2-06

A share of the points in this mid-table encounter does little to enhance either teams prospects as they possibly go through the motions for the remainder of the league which can be dangerous should ther be a loss in form which might be hard to arrest if it sets in.

Lissummon 1-11 Shane O’Neills 1-11

A converted Raymie Fitzpatrick penalty had Shanes ahead 1-4 to 0-4 at half time. When Lissummon scored a second half penalty the game ebbed and flowed with the lead changing hands. It was Fitzpatrick who emerged the hero with a long range free conversion grabbing a share of the spoils

Belleek 0-12 Collegeland 3-06

Two first half goals from Brian McGeary helped visiting Collegeland into a 7 point interval lead. The home side responded in the second half and with 10 minutes left on the clock were on level terms when disaster struck. A defensive mix up under the dropping ball allowed young Jack McGeary time and space to rifle hom the visitors third goal that sealed victory.

Keady 1-16 Annaghmore 0-10

No trouble for the leaders at home to mid table Annaghmore with Barry Comiskey and Kieran Hughes doing the bulk of the scoring for Keady who made it 10 wins from 11 so far.

An Port Mor 0-13 St.Paul’s 2-06

There was a shock in store for the second placed visitors as An Port Mor deep in relegation trouble turned them over for only their third win of the campaign. The result opens the door for those chasing the second promotion place and takes the winners out of the two relegation places.

DIVISION FOUR

8th league win for Corrinshego

Phelim Bradys 2-08 Corrinshigo 2-12

This eight league win for Corrinshigo was a lot tighter than expected but it keeps them right up there in the promotion race. Goals from Damien O Reilly and Paul Heatley helped the winners avoid a potential shock.

Clady 0-08 Dorsey Emmetts 0-07

Bad result for the visitors who were motoring along nicely. A fourth win for Clady might push them on to better things in what has been a very disappointing season.

Killean 0-08 Grange 1-13

The first half from the losers was probably the best they have produced all year but they could not sustain it in the second half as Grange added to their 1-4 to 0-4 interval lead.

Derrynoose 1-06 Crossmaglen 2nds 0-13

Rangers up to second in the table following this win. Cross led by 2 points at the break 0-7 to 1-2 and were generally in control. Rangers will take on league leaders Eire Og next week in a crucial match at the top of the table.

Mullabrack 0-14 Forkhill 0-19

Forkhill seemed to be coasting to victory but had to withstand a terrific fightback from the home team before emerging with the points for win number nine following successive defeats.
