Official opening of Frances Brannigan Memorial Garden

July 7, 2009

The family of the late Frances Brannigan officially opened a memorial garden  dedicated to the memory of the former Gaelscoil Phádraig Naofa teacher.

Speaking after the ceremony, Frances’ brother, Joe, thanked everyone involved in the project.

“On behalf of the Brannigan family, Drumacon, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who was involved in the opening of the Frances Brannigan Memorial Garden on Sunday 28th June.  Firstly to Michelle McKeever who was the driving force behind this idea and who put so much time, effort and work into the project, your hard work is very much appreciated.  To Mr Gildea (School Principal) and all the staff of St Patrick’s and Scoil Phádraig Naofa and all the friends of St Patrick’s and Scoil Phádraig Naofa for all your help and co-operation.  Thank you to all the parents and pupils of both schools who helped in any way and saved up all their loose change to contribute towards the fun day.

To Marty, the landscape gardener, who worked so strenuously on the garden design and produced a truly remarkable result, thank you so much.  To the McKeever brothers who worked so hard in their own time on the garden and for providing the materials needed.  To the Burns brothers who were responsible for the garden seat and inscription which has turned out so beautifully.  To all the volunteers who helped with the production of the garden and all those who so generously donated towards the garden fund, thank you all so much.  To Fr McKinney and Fr McMahon for their participation on the day and also to Frank Short and Eamonn Donnelly who spoke so kindly about Frances.  To Mona McEntee and staff for providing food and refreshments on the day.  Last but not least, to everyone who helped out or contributed to the fun day or helped out in any other way, your efforts are much appreciated.  The whole day was a great success and a true testament to the memory of Frances.

Huge thanks to all involved.”

The Brannigan Family

To the friends of St. Patrick’s/Gaelscoil Phadraig Naofa

We, the staff of St Patrick’s Primary School/Gaelscoil Phadraig Naofa, wish to thank you most sincerely for organising the loose change appeal, establishing the Frances Brannigan Memorial garden and for running the absolutely fantastic fun day for the School Community.

Frances devoted her life to the education and well-being of the young people in the community and she is always in our thoughts, conversations and daily routines in school.

It is such a thoughtful and fitting tribute to have a living memory of her in the School. We would just like to recognise all the hard work and inspiration provided by yourselves in making this a reality

Go raibh míle, míle maith agaibh.

The Staff of St Patrick’s Primary School, Crossmaglen.
