Four men die in horrific road crash near Newry

An horrific road crash near Newry on Sunday evening claimed the lives of four men, believed to be Portuguese nationals.
The two-vehicle accident, involving a car and a lorry, occurred shortly before 5.00pm on the Tandragee Road just outside the city.
A fifth man was injured and was taken to Daisy Hill Hospital. At present, the extent of his injuries are unknown. The names of the victims have not been released.
The road was closed to through traffic while the scene was examined and Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Following the accident, SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley expressed his shock and sadness and extended his sympathy to the victims’ families.
“People in the area are shocked about this horrific and tragic accident,” he said. “Once again it’s a reminder of the dangers that are always present on our roads.”
Sinn Fein Councillor, Pat McGinn, says people in the area are shocked and stunned at the tragedy.
” Once again homes and families have been destroyed, and at this present stage the thoughts and prayers of all our community is with those who have lost their lives,” he said.
