Rory O’Gorman is Irish Champion

June 17, 2019

Rory O’Gorman representing St Malachy’s ABC, Camlough  was crowned All-Ireland Champion at 63KG in the National Junior 1 and 2 Championships which were held over three weekends at the National Stadium, Dublin.

Ulster champion Rory was involved in a terrific semi-final contest with Sean Roche (Donore) which the Mullaghbawn boxer won 3-2 to set up a final showdown with Leinster Champion David Drennan (Paulstown) The  final saw Rory produce the best boxing of his career much to the delight of his coaches Thomas Shields and Marty Mulholland who were over the moon to see all his hard work and dedication pay off with the winning of an Irish title with a 4-1 decision going in his favour.

A few hours later there was disappointment in the O’Gorman camp as older brother and 4 times Irish Champion Shane lost the final of the Junior 2 66KG to defending champion and 10 times Irish Champion William Hayden (Crumlin). Shane will have little time to dwell on that defeat as later this month Shane is off to Germany with Ulster’s high-performance team to take part in the Black Forest Cup.

The O’Gorman brothers would like to take this opportunity to thank St Malachy’s ABC, Camlough , its coaches and staff for all their time, effort and dedication, which is given freely, all year round.
