‘Point bank robbery

November 24, 2009

A substantial sum of cash was stolen during a robbery in a Warrenpoint bank, police have said.

The branch of Northern Bank on Queen Street was targeted by robbers shortly after 5.00pm on Friday, just as staff were preparing to leave the premises.

A number of masked men smashed a window and forced their way into the building.  It’s believed they may have been armed with knives.  Three female members of staff were in the building at the time of the robbery but were uninjured.

The robbers made off in a silver-coloured Opel Astra which was later found burnt out in the Moygannon Court area of the town.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery or who may have witnessed suspicious activity.
