Vehicle theft should serve as a stark warning

A Crossmaglen resident is urging people to be vigilant in relation to car criminals operating in the area after his car was stolen from his driveway recently.

The man had just returned to his Blayney Road home around lunchtime on Wednesday when the thieves struck.

Personal possessions and valuable tools, which the owner relies on for his work, were in the vehicle at the time.

The theft was reported to police who in turn alerted Gardaí and fortunately the vehicle was located the following morning, a short distance across the border  in Co. Louth.  The tools, however, had been removed.

The audacious nature of this theft – from a victim’s driveway in broad daylight – should serve as a warning to car owners to ensure their vehicles are secured at all times.

In this instance, the victim was lucky that his vehicle was returned to him.   However, the whole incident underlines the importance of cross-border cooperation in dealing with criminal activity where PSNI and Garda Siochána liaise to combat crime.
