Bellini’s 5,000 Darts challenge

Pete C Promotions in association with Bellini’s, Merchants Quay, Newry will host the Bellini’s 5,000 darts challenge between current World number two Raymond Van Barneveld and World number three James Wade on Saturday Jan 23. The event will see the whole Sky package (without the actual TV cameras) in that the number one darts referee George Noble and renowned MC John McDonnell, the stage, the music, the televisions will all be in Newry for what is sure to be a night not to be missed by all dart throwers and enthusiasts.

Bellini’s, one of the countries leading dart venues, has more than satisfied the organisers of this all seater event of its prowess in being able to more than adequately cater for this fast selling out darts challenge. The Sky people have been so impressed with Bellini’s that they have earmarked it as a venue capable of holding the qualifiers for the SKY Grand Prix which is held in Citywest, Dublin each year.

The feature of the night will be the head to head between Barney and James either of whom could be World Champion by the time this event comes round

Prior to the featured challenge match some 40 local dart players, representing various clubs will have the experience of throwing against, or with, two of the leading protagonists of a sport which has grown to hugh popularity in recent years.

George Noble and John McDonnell are but two of the names which have helped with the phenominal rise of darts from an ordinary pub game to a world recognised sport that has attracted huge television interest and audiences world wide. George and John will be on stage early to get the crowd in the right frame of mind for the event with some banter prior to the 8.00pm start on the night. Doors will be open from 6-30 pm.

Word on the grapevine prior to this first public announcement of the event has seen all the VIP Corporate Tables snapped up along with 25 dart clubs from the Newry, Crossmaglen, Dundalk and Meath leagues taking tables and providing 25 of the 40 throwers needed for participation on the night. Tables seating 10 people are available at £200 per table with the first 40 tables sold, having the option of providing one thrower from each table to take part in the exhibition. Participating throwers will have a half hour practice with Barney and James and will be then introduced on stage to the accompanying music of their preferred theme song.
