Call for local participation in health and social care planning

February 23, 2010

Do you feel that there are important health and social care needs in your area that are being overlooked?  If the answer to this question is yes, then the Southern Local Commissioning Group (LCG) would like to hear from you.

The LCG is calling on local people from the Newry and Mourne area to get involved in shaping their own health and social care services by attending a stakeholder engagement meeting: on Thursday 25 February 2010, from 2.00 – 4.00pm, in Altnaveigh House, Belfast Road, Newry.

The Southern LCG is a committee of the regional Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) set up to plan and develop health and social care services locally. The group comprises representatives of professional bodies, community interests and elected representatives who bring local influence to the work of the Board.  Five such LCGs have been established across the province and each group meet regularly in public.

Chair of the Group, Sheelin McKeagney, says: “Involving You highlights our commitment to work with those who have an interest in, or can impact upon, the health and social wellbeing of the local population. Our most important stakeholders are people living in the local area, particularly those who use health and social care services or care for someone who does.  We want to involve these people in our work to ensure that services in the Newry and Mourne area are designed and delivered in a way that meets local needs.”

Lyn Donnelly, Assistant Director of Commissioning Designate with the HSCB Southern area said:  “The Southern LCG has commenced a process to identify and prioritise the current health and social care needs of the people living in the Southern area including; services for children and adults, community care, mental health and wellbeing and hospital services.   The LCG feel that this process can only be maximised by engaging with the local community.”
