From Cross To Paris And Home

February 23, 2010

Crossmaglen-born artist Kate Arslanian (née Harvey) will bring her first Irish solo exhibition from her Paris studio to Íontas Theatre, Castleblayney, opening on Friday 12th March.

Appropriately entitled, The Homecoming, this will be the largest exhibition ever to be hosted by Íontas Theatre – the exhibition will take place in the main foyer gallery space and in Theatre’s new multi-functional space, The Well.

Kate has successfully established herself as an artist in Paris with critically acclaimed exhibitions at the The Oberkampf Gallery, the Azdac Muséum and at the Salon d’Art Contemporain.

However, despite creating most of her work in her Paris studio, Kate’s powerful and essential paintings are very much rooted in the Irish soil and landscapes around her native Crossmaglen.

In what will be an evocative exhibition, Kate has moved from the figurative to the abstract. Although abstract in nature, Kate’s work is highly accessible and has been inspired by Kate’s research in The Centre Pompidou Paris – from Francis Bacon to Pierre Soulages – and of course by  the boglands around Crossmaglen.

The exhibition will continue until Friday 30th April and further details can be obtained from Íontas Theatre on 042 9753400/1.
