Women attacked in Newry car park

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an attack on two women in a Newry car park last weekend.

A man sexually assaulted one of the women and physically assaulted her friend after forcing them into a car park in the New Street area of the city on Saturday February 27th.

The women, aged in their 20s, had just left a bar on Canal Street and were walking in the direction of the courthouse when the were joined by a male whom they did not know.  The man then forced the two women into the carpark where he carried out the assaults.

The victims managed to get away and flagged down a passing motorist who alerted the police.

The attacker was described as tall and slim, wearing light blue denim trousers and a black jacket.

Officers believe a number of people were in the area of Sugar Island at the time and may have seen the man before the attack happened.

Anyone who saw him, or was in the area of the courthouse, New Street and Sugar Island between 2.30am and 3.30am on Saturday February 27th s asked to contact detectives on 0845 600 8000.
