An Abbey Grammar student scooped first prize in an ICT competition which was held recently in the University of Ulster, as part of its open day.

Peter Carragher from Silverbridge won an XBox 360 prize in the  ‘Bring IT on’ campaign, which is supported by the Department for Employment and Learning, Invest Northern Ireland, e-skills UK and Momentum.

The aim of the campaign is to promote careers in the ICT sector.  Northern Ireland’s ICT sector has continued to flourish despite the current economic climate, with long term forecasts predicting that 2,000 positions per annum will need filled in order to meet market demands.  The ‘Bring IT on’ campaign, now in its second year, is designed with these forecasts in mind, to inform our young people of the breadth of the career opportunities in the IT sector.

Michael Nobel of Momentum said: “Momentum is delighted to be involved in what is proving to be a successful campaign.  The aim of the ‘Bring IT on’ events is to communicate positive messages to pupils and dispel any stereotypes they may have about the software profession.  It’s an exciting industry to be in at the moment and we can only imagine how much more so it will be in years to come when these pupils are graduating from university and loooking for jobs.”
