It’s a long way from Tipperary

March 23, 2010

Armagh have a great chance to get back into league contention after the “Down Debacle” as they face a home game with Tipperary in Crossmaglen. It’s a long way from Tipperary and one thing is for sure the Premier lads are not just coming to Cross to make up the numbers. They took a point out of Pairc Esler and followed that up with a win over Meath. A narrow one point defeat at home to Donegal on Saturday night last indicates the well being of Tipperary football at present.

All eyes will be on just what starting 15 Paddy O’Rourke will go with for this penultimate league match. If Hearty lost out for the goal he let in against Meath then his replacement McEvoy must be under pressure for his shaky outing against Down. Only the Armagh full back trio can hold their heads high after the recent outing. It is very hard to know just what goes on in this league. Westmeath and Kildare were as bad against Armagh as Armagh were against Down and this sort of form is mirrored in all four divisions of the league. Down need a point from their last two matches away to Westmeath and at home to Laois as both battle against relegation. Armagh, Donegal, Kildare and Meath are all together on the 6 point mark with second place in the table very much up for grabs. While Armagh take on Tipp, Donegal play hosts to Meath as Kildare visit Laois.

Armagh can bounce back from Newry with a win on Sunday but it will not be easy. Two points on Sunday will leave the trip to Donegal very meaningful
