Messiah J and The Expert – a band unlike any other

November 5, 2008

This Saturday, November 8th, hugely popular entertainers Messiah J and The Expert – a band unlike any other – will bring their fantastic live show to Cobbles Club in Newry.

The band has recently been getting rave reviews following the release of their latest album From The Word Go.

The album questions the state of the world today.  Not that Messiah J and The Expert consider themselves authorities on politics or the environment or any other issues like these, MJEX would be the first to hold their hands up and admit they don’t have all the answers but that doesn’t stop them asking questions or wondering about the madness that happens around us every day.

The songs on From The Word Go are about everyday things, good and bad, all set against the backdrop of a pretty confused world and its people. Introducing the third Messiah J & The Expert album, From The Word Go.

So what’s changed?

The news is jam-packed with wars, job losses, elections, early budgets, recessions, climate change and all manners of global socio-political realities. So, where the last Messiah J & The Expert album, the Choice Music Prize-nominated Now This I Have To Hear dealt with personal relationships, writer’s block and tennis, From The Word Go questions the state of the world we live in today.

What about the music?

Effectively, it’s a greatest hits album made of entirely new material. There’s the funk-tastic first single, Megaphone Man, the reggae-tinged Amnesia Comes Easily, the disco-soul of Turn The Magic

On and the psychedelic march of Looking For A Long Term Thing. Artists that made a big dent on the brain of MJEX during the making of the album include The Specials, United States of America, Aphex Twin, Augustus Pablo, The Zombies, Marvin Gaye, The Clash, Edan and Parliament.

From The Word Go features guest appearances from Delorentos’ Keiran & Ro, long-time collaborator Joanne Daly and the lovely and talented

Leda Egri. The album swells with mighty contributions from both a string and a brass section. Finally recorded, the album was mastered in London by Guy Davie (Bjork, Foals, Neon Neon, The Streets).

Ultimately…

From The Word Go proves the genuine importance of Messiah J & The Expert, a band who continue to defy stereotype and welcome experimentation, argument and laughter. Messiah J & The Expert. - a band unlike any other  will take their live show to Cobbles Nightclub in Newry this Saturday 8th November.
