Ruby anniversary celebrations for Hospice dinner dance

May 11, 2010

On Wednesday last, May 5th,  Liam Goss, Chairperson of Southern Area Hospice Dinner Dance Committee, presented a cheque for £35,000 to Mrs Ann Cooney (Chief Executive) and Carmel Campbell (Nursing Director) of the Southern Area Hospice Services.

This amazing amount was raised at the annual dinner dance and from raffle ticket sales and a fabulous auction. Bidding was fierce as the auction encouraged diners to part with their cash to help fund the vital services provided by the Hospice throughout the year.

This year’s Dinner Dance, which proved to be a very glamorous affair, took place on Friday 26th March in the Canal Court Hotel. The evening concluded with dancing to the James Peake Xperience and was hailed as a resounding success by the Committee’s Chairperson Liam Goss.

Liam stated:   “The Committee would like to thank the event’s main sponsors Hughes Bookmakers, The Quays, Newry, Killowen Contracts Ltd., G4S, Parker Green International and the many other generous sponsors. The Committee are also grateful to the Canal Court Hotel, Frank Mitchell of UTV who acted as Master of Ceremonies, Garry Best who conducted the auction and to all those who contributed auction and raffle prizes, those who gave of their time to ensure the event’s success and to the patrons for their continued support.”

The date for next year’s dinner dance has been set for Friday 25th March 2011 in the Canal Court Hotel and is expected to be another wonderful night with some surprises in store.

It is hoped for 2011, the wider business community will include the dinner dance as one of their corporate events to show their support for the hospice and the vital role it plays in the community. Tables and tickets can be reserved by contacting the Hospice Fundraising Office directly on (028) 3025 1333.
