A man from Newtownhamilton was killed following an early morning crash outside the town on Sunday.  The one-vehicle collision was reported to police shortly before 4.00am.

Three men were travelling in a black Peugeot 206 car when it crashed on the Dundalk Road on the outskirts of the village.  The occupants were taken to Daisy Hill Hospital where one man later died of his injuries.  The two other men were discharged.

The stretch of the road where the crash occurred was closed for several hours on Sunday while police investigated the scene.  They have appealed for witnesses to the accident to contact them.

It is believed the deceased, named locally as Mark Henry, is aged in his early thirties and lived in the town.

SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley extended sympathy to the victim’s family.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the young man’s family at this sad time  and I send them my deepest condolences.

“Every death on the road is a reminder to us all of the dangers which face us on the roads and of the need for the utmost caution at all times.”
