Old and new stars set to shine at Hillgrove Country Music Concert

July 6, 2010

THE country music generation gap will be spanned in some style at the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan on Monday night next July 12th when Shannonside Northern Sound radio hosts a spectacular concert featuring artistes who have been part of the fabric of the Irish entertainment scene for five decades.

The show will embrace seasoned veterans such as Philomena Begley and Brian Coll and some of the newer breed of stars like Mike Denver and Patrick Feeney.

And joining them will be Susan McCann, Brian Coll, Hugo Duncan, Mick Flavin and Brendan Shine with top comedian Conal Gallen bringing his own inimitable brand of humour to the proceedings.

Mike Denver may be the hottest act in the country right now but the Galway singer readily acknowledges that the country legends set to perform at the Hillgrove Hotel blazed the trail which he, Patrick Feeney and others have successfully followed.

“These singers have been magnificent ambassadors for country music. They set the template for the rest of us and it’s terrific to see that they are all still going strong,” says Mike.

Brian Coll and Philomena Begley have been iconic figures in country music circles for 45 years while Brendan Shine has long since carved out a special niche for himself in the business. This all serves to make Mick Flavin a mere pup given that he has ‘only’ twenty years of service to his credit!

Patrick Feeney, for his part, has been riding the crest of a wave this year and having enhanced his reputation during ‘The Three Amigos’ in tandem with Jimmy Buckley and Robert Mizzell he is now ready to take the Hillgrove by storm.

“I’m looking forward to this show with particular relish as it brings together some of Ireland’s elite performers. It’s very encouraging to note that there is still colossal interest in country music,” says Patrick.

A special guest artiste at the concert will be Muriel Day who represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1969 and is still an acclaimed performer.

Shannonside Radio’s irrepressible Joe Finnegan will be host for the evening and the show is expected to prove a sell-out. Tickets can be obtained by contacting the Hillgrove Hotel at 0035347-81288 or by paying at the door on the night.
