Taoiseach Brian Cowen is to visit to Crossmaglen later this week, it has been confirmed.

The Fianna Fáil leader will be accompanied by a number of high profile TDs when he arrives in town this Thursday.

As part of his remit while in Crossmaglen, Mr Cowen will officially open the Fianna Fáil party offices on North Street

The occasion is being lauded as both historic and significant as it is the first visit to the town by a serving Taoiseach.

Fianna Fáil party spokesperson in Crossmaglen, Martin McAllister, says he hopes the Taoiseach will receive a rousing welcome from the people of the area.

“This is a major historical and significant occasion as it is the first ever visit by the Head of Government.  I sincerely hope the welcome afforded to Mr Cowen by the people of Crossmaglen will reflect this,” he said.

Mr Cowen will arrive in The Square, Crossmaglen at approximately 7.30pm.  Following the opening of the party offices, he will be guest of honour at a fundraising function in the Cross Square Hotel.

There are only a limited number of tickets remaining for the function. For further information on tickets,  telephone 02830868427.
