Two men were arrested in Crossmaglen on Saturday night in connection with an attempted break-in in the Middletown area of Armagh.
The pair, one aged in his 30s, the other in his 20s, were arrested in a house on the Carran Road in the town. A white Toyota Hiace van was also seized and is undergoing forensic examination.
A police spokesperson said that around 8.45pm a farmer was driving into his farm on the Drumhillery Road in Middletown when he disturbed two males attempting to break into a shed. One of the men was armed with a sledgehammer and the padlock of the shed had been removed. The farmer was threatened with the sledgehammer before the men made off in the white van.
The pair were arrested a short time later and are being questioned by police.
It is believed the police search of a property on the Carran Road on Sunday evening may have been connected to the incident.
