Alcoholics Anonymous Armagh Area will be holding their 8th Annual Convention on 13th and 14th August 2010 in the Armagh City Hotel and Conference Centre.
The theme of the Convention this year is “You Are No Longer Alone.” The proceedings start on the Friday night with the Opening meeting followed on Saturday night with an Open public information meeting both of these meetings are open to the public who are warmly invited to attend and find out more about the disease of alcoholism and how AA can help. Al-Anon family run groups for friends and relatives of alcoholics will also be running their own programme of meetings in conjunction with the AA convention on the Saturday. Entertainment will be provided on both Friday and Saturday nights.
AA was founded on June 10th 1935 in Akron Ohio and has since helped millions of men and women who suffer from the disease of alcoholism to attain a sober and content life by attending meetings of AA and using the 12 step recovery programme.
There are at present over 20 AA groups in the Armagh area covering Newry, Portadown, Lurgan and Armagh city itself. There are also open meetings held in St.Luke’s hospital on Monday night and Cuan Mhuire, Newry on Sunday afternoons.
