Teens charged after Newry robbery

Three teenagers have been charged with a number of offences following an assault and robbery in Newry, police have said.

A 51-year-old man was assaulted as he got into his parked car and his bag was stolen in the Mill Street area of the city at around 8pm on Tuesday.

The man gave chase to his assailants and retrieved his bag, however the robbers again assaulted him and when he shouted for help they made off.

He was treated in hospital for bruising to his head and body.

Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, have been charged with a number of charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and robbery and appeared before Banbridge Magistrates Court, sitting in Newry, on Thursday morning.

A third teenager, aged 17, has been charged with assault and disorderly behaviour and is expected to appear in court in Newry on Friday 1 October.
