Fil Campbell performs for local Hospice

October 5, 2010

Rostrevor based singer songwriter and guitar player Fil Campbell presents her Songbirds Show at the Canal Court Hotel, Newry on Sunday 28th November 2010 at 7pm in aid of Southern Area Hospice Services.

In the concert, Fil revives the Irish Folk Songs from the 1930s, 40s and 50s as featured in her most recent CD, Songbirds, taken from the TV series of the same name. She is a charming performer and will have audiences singing from the word go and is joined on stage by Tom McFarland (percussion and vocals) and Brendan Emmett (guitar and mandolin).

The show is built around many well-known and old time favourites with good choruses – so get your voices ready – interspersed with stories about the songs and about the women who first recorded them. Songs of loving and leaving, of spinsters and journeymen (and of course, drink) in Irish and in English – from Teddy O’Neill to the Connemara Cradle Song. Fil has finished recording a second collection of these beautiful old songs which are so much a part of our childhood memories on these islands. This CD will be available later this Winter.

Fil is originally from Co. Fermanagh and has been performing in public since she was a child. “Songbirds” is her 5th album. Tom has toured with the David Knopfler Band and with Finbar Furey, while Brendan was a long time member of the Frances Black band and has worked with many other great Irish singes including Dolores Keane, Charlie McGettigan and Eleanor Shanley.

Tickets priced at £10 are available from usual outlets, Carlin records, Newry and the Hospice shops.  For more information contact the fundraising office on (028) 302 51333.
