The South Armagh Kickboxing Club, based in Forkhill, is celebrating its best ever success with a total haul of nine medals from the World Kickboxing Championships held in Edinburgh last week.

The haul included two gold, three silver and five bronze and were awarded to: David Clarke (Gold in Individuals), Ryan Walsh (1 Gold and 1 Bronze in Individuals), Sean Donnelly (Silver in Individuals), Ciaran Walsh (Silver in Individuals), Gavin Donnelly (Silver in Teams and Bronze in Individuals), Eimear Donnelly (Bronze in Team) and Lisa Walsh (Bronze in both Team and Individual events).

Speaking from Edinburgh, the club’s primary coach Desy Murphy said he is delighted at the success of the young athletes and paid tribute to their commitment and hard work that has led to this fantastic achievement.

“We have been training hard for this from May and it is a very proud moment for me that these young sportsmen and women have achieved such success for themselves and the club.”

The team arrived home late on Saturday night  and it’s expected a function will be held in their honour during the coming week.

Full report and photos will appear in next week’s issue.
