January 4, 2011

Six men have been been treated in hospital for slash injuries sustained in a street fight in Newry in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

At about 2.00am on Saturday two men were walking along Water Street when one fell over. Another man offered help, but his offer was refused and a fight began.   A number of men became involved and ambulances were called to attend to the injured.

A 23 year old man received a severe slash wound to his lower lip almost severing part of it, while two men were treated for slash wounds to their faces.  The others received treatment for bruising and minor wounds.

Police have appealed for anyone with any information about the incident to contact them.
