Ben Reel and friends at Iontas

Fresh after a live T.V appearance on BBC 2 “Blas Ceoil” programme last thursday with his band, Ben Reel will play a very special show in the Iontas theatre in Castleblayney this Friday 28th November.

Ben will be joined by lots of guest artist whom have played or collaborated with him through his career, including the infamous ”Trim The Velvet” the band which Ben started out with back in 1989 born out of St. Joseph’s High School Crossmaglen, featuring local lads, Francis Fitzpatrick, Ritchie McConville and Thomas Byrne, this will be a one off appearance and one not too be missed. It has been 12 years since the band last played together.

  Other guest on the night will be two other Crossmaglen men ”Michael Hughes” a fine singer in his own right and Stephen “Clubs” Clarke on Saxaphone, better known lately for winning All-Ireland medals with The Rangers. For Rock fans the great “Speed King” will play a set featuring Ben’s brother-in-law and sometimes guitarist Gerald Black, also appearing will be some Hip Hop and Rap from Kerry with “Lineage” and another great Kerry musician on Piano and guitar on the night “Mick Galvin”. The list goes on with appearances from musicians from all over, like dutch artist Fritz Willemson, “Wipper the bass man” from Belfast, and closer to home Castleblayney’s finest, Gerry Redmond, Micky McCarthy & Francis Mason and on backing vocals for the night will be  The Blayneyettes featuring Ben,s wife Julieanne Black, Kellie Redmond & Stacey Jones and not to forget Ben’s current band of Mick McCarney on Guitar and the formidable rhythm section with Michael Black on Drums and Ronnie O’Flynn on Bass. Compare on the night will be from Radio Kerry’s Pat Cunnane and founder of Good Vibrations record label  in Belfast, the legendary Terri Hooley.

   It promises to be a night of great music that will live in the memory for a long time, a tonic to lift those recession blues.
