Garden comes to Orchard

June 28, 2011

All-Ireland Qualifier Round 2

Wicklow, known as the Garden County, will visit the Orchard County, Armagh following the draw for the second round of qualifiers in the All-Ireland championship series.

High profile manager Mick O’Dwyer will take his Leinster charges to the Morgan Athletic Grounds brimming with confidence following their great home 1-18 to 0-16 win over Sligo in the first round of the qualifiers. After exiting the Leinster championship with a very disappointing performance against Kildare 0-12 to 0-5 Wicklow have made a name for themselves since O’Dwyer took over as the perfect exponents of the “back door system” where they have claimed a number of notable scalps over the years.

Armagh will be anxious to get back on track following an impressive opening win over Down only to be condemned to the qualifiers in convincing fashion by Derry the last day out. Paddy O’Rourke and his squad will want redemption and could have faced much tougher opponents further afield than landing a home tie with Wicklow in what will be a first championship meeting between the counties.

Down, after surviving a huge scare away to Clare in Ennis will be well fancied once again to progress after being handed a home tie with Leitrim who were hammered by Roscommon 2-12 to 0-6 in the Connacht semi-final after they had surprised Sligo in the first round.

All-Ireland SFC Qualifier R2 draw
