Cullyhanna Couple Scoop Top Prize in Sunday World Wedding Competition

October 25, 2011

By Christine Keighery

Cullyhanna couple Sarah McKeever, 26, and her fiancé Conor McShane, 28, are the lucky winners of a dream wedding package worth over £10,000. At the final in the Culloden Estate and Spa, Sarah was named Bride of the Year after competing in a public vote against three other finalists.

The competition, which was run by Bookourwedding.com in conjunction with The Sunday World has a luxury prize package which includes a fabulous wedding dress worth £1,000, a photography package worth over £2,000, a hen night for up to 30 women, a pamper package at the Culloden Spa, and many more extras.

Sarah, obviously thrilled to be chosen as the winner of such a wonderful prize, told us her sister, who lives in England, had actually entered the couple in the competition. It had been jokingly mentioned over the phone between the two but Sarah thought nothing of it, until her sister rang her to confirm she had in fact entered them in the competition.

As part of their competition entry, Sarah’s sister wrote how the couple had been together 6 years in July 2011 when Conor whisked Sarah away for a surprise romantic getaway at the Heritage Hotel in Laois, where he popped the question.  The following Friday, her sister rang to confirm the couple had made it to the final.

Once in the final four, it was down to the public to vote for their favourite and Sarah has high praise for her fiancé, Conor, who she says, worked so hard in drumming up publicity for the couple.   “Conor did a lot of work over the few days to get people voting for us.”  This included contacting the local press for coverage, erecting posters in the area and starting a Facebook campaign.

Along with all the votes sent in by family and friends, Conor’s publicity campaign obviously worked and Sarah was named last week as the lucky Bride of The Year!

The ecstatic couple, who are due to be married in May 2013, are thrilled with their win. As Sarah says, “Winning this will really take the pressure off.  We can enjoy planning the wedding now without having to worry about the financial side of things.”

The happy couple would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone who voted for them, including Sarah’s hairdressing clients in The Salon, Forkhill,  Conor’s work colleagues, all their family and friends and the local community, who have helped them win the fantastic wedding of their dreams.
