A record year for the 5th Mourne Truck Run

August 14, 2012

This year’s Mourne Truck Run was a phenomenal success – with a record number of lorries taking part. The magnificent turnout was evident as the convoy set off on its tour of the Mournes at 1p.m. from Greenbank Industrial Estate – with lorries from as far away as Dublin and Belfast coming to support the event.  A celebration dinner was held that evening in the Carrickdale Hotel and included a fantastic prize draw and auction.  On Sunday the day was brought to a close with a family fun day in St Christopher’s Park Newry.

Speaking on behalf of the organising committee, Gary and Stephen O’Hare said, “we are indebted to those companies, drivers, marshalls, stewards, collectors and to everyone who helped in any way.  The money raised will be donated to the Southern Area Hospice, Newry Junior Chamber Women’s Aid Appeal and PSP (Progressive Supranuclear palsy).

Fiona Stephens, representing the Southern Area Hospice said: “This year’s Truck run was inspirational!  To see such massive support for local charities was wonderful and we particularly wish to thank the organisers for their commitment and dedication to making this a weekend to remember.  The money raised will be used to provide care for local people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses and also to support PSP and NJC Women’s Aid Appeal.
