‘Shameful’ arson attack at Slieve Gullion Adventure Park

There was widespread disgust throughout the locality last weekend, at an arson attack which took place at the newly opened Slieve Gullion Adventure Play Park.

Portable toilet facilities, which had been recently implemented for the convenience of patrons of the park and recreation area, were burnt beyond repair in the attack, which took place last Friday night.  A disabled toilet in the block was completely destroyed by the deliberate fire.

Sinn Fein MLA, Megan Fearon, who visited the burnt out site, condemned those responsible for the mindless vandalism, and expressed concern that south Armagh’s newest and most popular tourist attraction should be blighted in such a way.

“This attack on the toilet facilities at Slieve Gullion Forest Park is absolutely shameful.  This is fast becoming one of the premier tourist and day tripper destinations in the south Armagh north Louth area.  To think that anyone would attack a place of recreation like this is just terrible.  The fact that the disabled toilets have been destroyed beyond repair is particularly upsetting.

“My Sinn Féin colleagues, councillors Anthony Flynn and Packie McDonald have contacted the relevant local agencies to have this mess cleaned up and I hope that full toilet facilities are up and running again as soon as possible for the thousands who visit Slieve Gullion each week.”
