Folk Club An Bonnan Bui

August 28, 2012

The town-lands of Oriel are awash with excitement over the forthcoming arrival of new traditional music starlets ‘Realta’ at Folk Club An Bonnan Bui in Crossmaglen Rangers Hall on Friday 31st August.

This Belfast based musical trio bring with them the intricate melodies and driving rhythms that make Irish music so loved throughout the world. While Conor and Aaron pursue the melody on dual uilleann pipes, whistles and flute, Deirdre explores the harmony and rhythms within the tunes through a dynamic accompaniment on guitar.

These three young musicians take a lively yet respectful approach to traditional music and have firmly established themselves on the Irish music scene. Between them, they have performed with a variety of established bands and their experience includes festivals such as The Irish Folk Festival Tour (Germany/Switzerland), The Smithsonian Folklife Festival (Washington), Festival Interceltico Accidente (Asturias), Alkmaar Irish Music Festival (The Netherlands), Randers Ugen (Denmark), Le Bono Folk Festival (Brittany), Tok Trad Festival (France), Celtic Connections, Girvan Folk Festival and Moniaive Folk Festival (Scotland), The Open House Festival (Belfast) and The William Kennedy Piping Festival (Armagh).

Having won the prestigious ‘Danny Kyle Award’ at Celtic Connections Festival 2012, Réalta have been working on their debut album, which they intend to have for sale at the Folk Club on the night.

One of the most unique and endearing aspects of Folk Club An Bonnan Bui is that the artists who come to play meet and give tuition to the very people they come to entertain.

With this in mind, the boys will be taking the time during the afternoon to give workshops on Uilleann Pipes and Tin Whistle. Classes begin at 5pm – 6pm for those with 6mths to 2 year’s experience and following that at 6.15pm to 7.15pm for those with 2yrs plus playing experience. Admission to the workshops is £5/€6.50 for children and £8/€10 for adults. This really is an opportunity not to be missed. For more information on attending the workshops, contact Pearse at 0035387-6779108.

As a live band, Réalta delight audiences with the enthusiasm, energy and passion they bring to their music.

Doors on this very special night open at 8pm and entertainment begins at 8.30pm with some story-telling and a little song. Realta will take to the stage at 9pm sharp at which point the cry will be “Hold on to yer seats!”.
