Ring of Gullion Comhaltas Welcomes Johnny Connolly ‘King of the Melodeon’ to Forkhill
August 28, 2012
On Tuesday 28th August, Johnny Connolly from Connemara will be the Guest Artist at the Ring of Gullion Summer Programme in the Welcome Inn, Forkhill. Johnny was born on the now-abandoned island of Inis Bearacháin, off Leitir Móir in the Connemara Gaeltacht. With a lifetime of playing the single-row melodeon, Johnny Connolly is an acknowledged master: Possibly the greatest Irish melodeon player ever, certainly the best of his generation, and the cause of renewed interest in the Irish melodeon style in Connemara and beyond.
Ring of Gullion Comhaltas are very excited to have Johnny Connolly as their Guest Artist. The evening will begin at 9.30pm with an open session – all musicians and singers are very welcome to participate. This will be followed by the Guest Artist spot after which the session will continue with Johnny joining in with all the other local and visiting musicians and singers. Everybody, young and old, are welcome to attend. This is a night not to be missed!
