September 4, 2012

The second phase of the Saint Brigid’s College, Omeath (founded 1912) Celebration will shift to Newry on the weekend starting 7th September

Newry Branch Gaelic League has put together an exhibition that charts aspects of the history of the famous Omeath Gaeltacht college and will display paper ephemera and photos related to the college. The exhibition will be launched in Newry’s Saint John Bosco GAA Club, Water Street, at 8.00 pm on Friday 7th September and will feature a performance from Donegal Gaeltacht singer, Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde. A lecture on those who attended the Irish summer college, and taught in it, will be given by Dr. Ciarán Ó Duibhín on Saturday 8th September, again in the Bosco Club. The exhibition will move to Newry Bunscoil on Tuesday 11th September and then to Omeath for the main celebrations on 14th September. The Newry events are free and are bilingual.

Newry Branch Gaelic League will issue a souvenir poster to mark the centenary and will publish a commemorative booklet later in the Autumn. See for more detail
