Making Music in Mullaghbawn

September 18, 2012

The ever-popular Traditional Music classes resume in St Mary’s Primary School Mullaghbawn on Thursday 4th October. Each of the last five years has seen an increase in the number of children attending and we hope this will continue. Classes are available in Tin Whistle; Fiddle; Banjo/mandolin; Guitar; Button Accordion; Bodhran; Flute; and Singing (both in Irish and in English). The Traditional groups in particular are fantastic for building your child’s social confidence as well as their musical ability – and we have many happy kids to prove it.

A Registration night for classes will be held on Thursday 20th September in St Mary’s P.S from 6.30-7.30pm. Please note: The only way to guarantee your child’s place is to register on this night. Some Classes are really popular and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Don’t go mad…

If your child would like to learn to play an instrument, we strongly recommend you start them on the Tin Whistle. A whistle costs about £4 so it will not break the bank. Please do not just go out and buy an expensive instrument. Let your child earn one, by applying themselves to learning Whistle first and showing they will stick at it. Everything they learn on the Whistle will be of use when they take up another instrument.

We are keen to spread the joys of music, so we have special rates for families. You might be surprised at just how reasonable they are.
