Spate of burglaries and theft in locality condemned

The recent spate of thefts, burglaries and break-ins across the locality, including two premises at Dundalk Street, Newtownhamilton has been strong condemned by SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Dominic Bradley.

A number of incidents have also occurred in Hilltown and Newry.

In Newry, four vehicles were broken into, two businesses burgled and a car stolen overnight between Monday, 15 October and Tuesday, 16 October. Detectives are investigating a link between all these incidents.

Three vehicles, a Volkswagen Sharan, Renault Megane and Suzuki Jeep, in the Yellow Road area of Hilltown were also broken into and had valuable items stolen from them.  A car in the Lisserboy Road area of Newry was also entered and a sum of cash and mobile phone taken.

In Dundalk Street, Newtownhamilton, thieves broke into two business premises, stealing a quantity of cigarettes from one of the businesses and smashing open a gaming machine in the other.

A silver BMW 530D Sport Auto was stolen as the result of a creeper burglary in Ringsbane Road, Newry, sometime between 6.30am and 7.30amon Tuesday 16th October and was reported to be involved in criminal activity in C District on Wednesday morning, 17 October.

Commenting on the thefts and burglaries, which police believe are linked, Mr Bradley said,

“It is important that anyone who has any information about these crimes contacts the police as soon as possible so that those responsible can be apprehended quickly.  Even the smallest piece of information can be of assistance to the PSNI.

“Anyone who has seen or heard anything which may be connected to these crimes should come forward.  It is only through the combined actions of the community and the police that the culprits will be caught.”

Detectives are asking anyone with information in relation to any of these incidents to contact them at Ardmore Police Station on 0845 600 8000. They would also like to hear from anyone who has information in relation to the movements or whereabouts of the silver BMW since Tuesday morning.
