Newry to host unique MLA Book launch

November 13, 2012

High profile Sinn Fein MLA and Tyrone GAA enthusiast Barry McElduff is set to launch his eagerly awaited book entitled KEEP ‘ER LIT in St John Bosco GAA Club, Newry on Thursday evening 22 November and the Tí Chulainn cultural centre on Sunday 25th November at 8pm.

There is sure to be strong local interest in the launch of this book as the author reflects on his public life and a whole series of interesting experiences that have characterised his life to date.  The book contains 92 such anecdotes and observations and looks very closely at the experience of nationalists in the North, as well as the whole GAA culture which he approaches from a unique point of view.  Naturally, the life of an MLA features prominently and Barry recounts many experiences of contact with constituents as well as some humorous anecdotes about colleagues and political adversaries.

In his book, there are a number of Newry and Armagh references, bits and pieces of GAA rivalry but also strong evidence of local community and political networks that Barry has built up in this area.

Tyrone’s All-Ireland winning Captain Peter Canavan has written the foreword to Barry’s book which is sure to capture the imagination.   Like Barry’s overall book, Peter’s foreword is both serious and funny, as well as entertaining of course.

Speaking ahead of his book launch, Barry McElduff extended a welcome to all interested individuals to attend this book launches.  He said that he is delighted that Thursday evenings launch is taking place in St John Bosco GAA Club which Barry has previously visited and where he feels very much at home.

Mickey Brady MLA will introduce Barry’s book launch next Thursday.  Proceedings get underway at 8.00pm. At the Tí Chulainn event, Newry Armagh MP Conor Murphy will be joined by Gaelic football legend Oisin McConville. Refreshments will be served before Barry addresses his audience as to the motivations and content of his book.
