Newry & Mourne Soroptimists Hosts Annual Youth Award Public Speaking Competition

Newry and Mourne Soroptimists held a very successful Schools Public Speaking Competition in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre on Thursday 8th November. Club President Anne Kelly welcomed everyone to the event and the competition got under way.

Schools who took part included St. Joseph’s High School, Crossmaglen, and St. Mary’s High School, Newry. Competitors took the floor and spoke eloquently before the panel which consisted of Dr. Tom Kelly OBE, Ms. Denise Taylor, Chairperson Newpoint Drama Group, and Ms.Brenda Hughes, Accountant and member Newry and Mourne Soroptimists.

It  was a hard fought competition but the winner was Ms. Marie Pearce, St. Mary’s High School, Newry.  Marie  will go on to represent Newry and Mourne at the Regional Competition in Derry/Londonderry in February 2013, and the good wishes of the Club and fellow competitors go with her.
