Chance to Impress

Paul Grimley and James McCartan, the respective Armagh and Down managers will be both hoping that they can unearth some new talent in January as they announced their squads for the Dr. McKenna Cup campaign. The management duo, who will meet in the final group game of the January Cup competition, have given several new faces the chance to impress to ensure further inclusion as the season progresses.

Armagh who will compete in Section B along with Queen’s University Belfast, Cavan and Down have named a 26-man squad for the 2013 tournament which commences on Sunday, January 6th with Armagh taking on Queen’s in Round 1 at The Athletic Grounds. St Patrick’s Ciaran McKeever has been selected as captain. With the Crossmaglen players absent due to club commitments Paul has spread his squad selection across 19 different clubs in the hopes of bolstering his league and championship panels with emerging talent that can make all the difference between success and failure. Armagh begin their Division two league campaign away to Laois on Feb 2. Meanwhile Down will have to plan without the experienced trio-Dan Gordon, Daniel Hughes and Ambrose Rodgers for the McKenna Cup as they begin their campaign with a trip to Kingspan Breffni Park on Sun Jan 6 to take on Cavan. McCartan will be hoping to add some fresh talent to his league panel for their division one campaign which commences with a home game against Tyrone on Feb 2.
