Mr Dermot Russell, Assistant Director of District Development (Recreation & Community Unit) said that the Sports Development Committee and the Council were delighted again to announce the critical commercial sponsorship from the Newry Democrat and the Canal Court Hotel and he thanked Ms Debra Ferguson and Ms Karen Scott for their support. This assistance, he said has made this event one of the most prestigious in the Council Calendar and is now the premier sport personality event in Northern Ireland.

The chairman of the Sports Development Committee Mr Damian McCullough said: ‘I am delighted to announce this years event. I feel it gives our sporting community a chance to celebrate itself and its’ achievements. There are so many dedicated people involved in bringing our area to the fore in the sporting world. Nominations do not necessarily need to be someone who is seen on a pitch each week, they can be someone who in your opinion works tirelessly in the background for the benefit of a club, team or sport.  If you feel someone deserves recognition then nominate them on the form displayed from the categories listed below.  Don’t miss your opportunity and get nominating!”
