Bessbrook pensioner murder: man released on police bail
The 30 year old man, arrested last Wednesday in connection with the investigation into the murder of a Bessbrook pensioner last August has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Seventy three year old Eugene Carr died almost three months after he was viciously assaulted in his bed during a violent robbery in his home in Clogharevan Park in the early hours of 31st August 2015.
The disabled pensioner was left with horrific injuries after being beaten and stabbed with a hook by thieves who ransacked his Bessbrook home before fleeing with an undisclosed sum of cash.
He spent 11 weeks in hospital being treated for multiple injuries before succumbing to his injuries on November 17th.
A man was arrested in the Newry area on Wednesday morning by Detectives investigating the murder before being taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning. Two house searches were also carried out in the Newry and Rathfriland areas.
A 26 year old woman and a 27 year old man who were arrested in the Newry area on Friday 4th September 2015 in relation to the attack also remain on police bail pending further enquiries.
