Big Apple beckons for talented hairdresser

A talented local hairdresser has been granted the opportunity of a lifetime after securing a chance to showcase her enviable skills during one of the international fashion scene’s most high profile events –  New York Fashion Week.

Crossmaglen coiffeuse Kay Burns will jet off to the Big Apple in February as part of a professional Aveda styling crew to create show-stopping hairstyles for some of the world’s top models taking part in the iconic fashion show. Kay, who is renowned among local fashionistas and discerning brides and bridal parties for her stunning and creative up-styles, landed the coup after applying for an Aveda Academy Runway Styling course which takes place in January ahead of New York Fashion Week.

The prestigious course will give her the chance to work with Aveda’s styling professionals to learn everything from behind-the-scenes logistics to how to create high fashion runway-ready hairstyles. Kay will then return to the fashion capital in February for New York Fashion Week to help some of the world’s top designers show off their collections with hair that rules the runway.

The hugely talented stylist has developed a stellar reputation since beginning freelance hairdressing a mere 6 months ago to become one of the most sought after hairdressers in the district.

The 23 year old has been honing her expertise since she began working with various local salons from the tender age of 14.  Kay’s career has really taken off since going it alone and that’s in no small part down to her constant drive to improve and succeed, staying ahead in the competitive, fast paced world of hair and fashion by undertaking further training and styling courses and taking part in national competitions on a regular basis.  Her talent has also landed her a number of covers for the Ulster Bride magazine, the latest of which can be seen in the Ulster Bride Christmas Edition.

Visitors to her Facebook page, Couture Freelance Styling, can see for themselves the beautiful and unique styles Kay creates which keep her in such demand.  The ambitious young hairdresser now hopes to earn herself an international reputation when she makes her debut as stylist to the stars in February.

This is not the first time Kay’s hair creations have come to the attention of the international scene though.  Just a few months ago renowned hairdresser to the stars, Bennett Gray took to Instagram to compliment  her stunning work and invited the talented local lady to join him in New York to work alongside him.  Fresh from New York fashion week in February, Kay won’t be on home ground for too long before she takes off once again for the Big Apple in March to work with the stylist for the stars.

Speaking to The Examiner about her exciting few months ahead, the local hairdresser told us she is on cloud nine to have secured such amazing invitations and can’t wait to broaden her horizons and knowledge in a career which is all she has ever wanted to do.  Kay “couldn’t be happier” at getting to realise her dreams in the fashion capital of the world next year  and hopes that her experiences will help to raise her profile even more.

Thanking all her clients for their continued support, Kay said, “My clients mean everything to me!” and said she is looking forward to a busy 2016 full of opportunity and promise.
