‘Boy racers’ ram Garda car and flee across border
The hunt is on for a northern-registered vehicle that rammed a Garda car before fleeing across the border at Carrickarnon on Friday night last.
Gardaí were called to the scene, described as a “boy racer type gathering”, at the site of the former customs post close to the border around 11.30pm. In a bid to escape the scene, a blue Isuzu Trooper vehicle rammed the patrol car before speeding away. No one was injured in the incident but damage was caused to the Garda patrol car.
Gardaí also seized a Jaguar car that was involved in the anti-social behaviour and said the sting was part of their ongoing operations into prosecuting individuals for reckless driving.
The scene has become a regular meeting place for so-called boy racers who gather in groups to carry out dangerous stunts in ‘souped-up’ cars, cheered on by dozens of onlookers.
A Garda spokesperson appealed to the public to get in touch on 042 93 88400 with any information on the Isuzu Trooper, registration KLZ 6353.
