Crossmaglen Post Office on the move

Following the recent relocation of the Royal Mail Delivery Office from Crossmaglen to Newry, the local Post Office is also now on the move.

Tuesday 29th November will mark Michael McArdle’s last day as sub-Postmaster when his office closes its doors for the last time at 1.00 p.m.  On the same day, the new Post Office will open at Centra, 12 North Street, Crossmaglen under the management of Frankie, Damian and Danielle McGleenan.

Michael has been sub-Postmaster in the town for almost 22 years after taking over from former sub-Postmaster James Duffy in 1995.  His family run Estate Agency, Michael McArdle & Son has also been providing its services in the area for more than 100 years and Mr McArdle sees the relocation of the Post Office as an opportunity for he and his wife to concentrate fully on the Estate Agency business.

To say “Goodbye” and “Thank You” to their customers Michael and Eileen will be running a free raffle for a voucher for the Cross Square Hotel. To enter, simply fill out your contact details on the raffle tickets available in the current Post Office. The winning ticket will be drawn on Monday 28th November @ 4.00 p.m.

At the time the Post Office was located at 17 Newry Street; in February 2000 he moved it and the Delivery Office to new purpose-built facilities at 25 North Street.

As well as the Post Office, Michael and Eileen had the shop offering quality gifts, toys and stationery at value for money.

Speaking with The Examiner Michael said he would like to thank the many customers who supported the Post Office and shop over the years and encouraged them to support the new team at the Post Office in Centra. However, not all will be new – he was delighted that his current staff will be transferring to the new location and took this opportunity to wish Marian, Mary & John well in their new location. He thanked them and the other staff who helped provide a high standard of service and care over those almost 22 years and also wished the Delivery Officers well working out of Newry Delivery Office.
