Crossmaglen Rangers are Intermediate Camogie Champions
ARMAGH CAMOGIE INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Crossmaglen Rangers 1-10 St Brigid’s 2-4
Crossmaglen Rangers are the 2018 Armagh Camogie Intermediate Champions following a hard fought very entertaining final against St Brigid’s which ended in a 1-10 to 2-4 victory.
Cross controlled the opening 20 minutes of this final, with their defence dominant they raced into a 6 point to nil lead after 22 minutes but then a goal from the city side saw them end the half 0-7 to 1-0 in arrears. Ashlinn McMahon weighed in with 3 points and Player of the Match, Megan O’Callaghan fired over a couple of points as did Faye Fitzpatrick to complete the Rangers first half scoring.
The turnaround in the second half was in complete contrast to the opening half as St Brigid’s showed that they were not just there to make up the numbers and with 3 unanswered points in the opening 16 minutes had reduced the deficit to the minimum.
Scoreless Cross introduced their own super sub with the goalden touch as Charlene Fanthorpe netted the all important 3 pointer to put Rangers back in control and four points to the good. Orla Murtagh then added to the lead with a well taken point but a second St Brigid’s goal put the game back in the melting pot as the clock ticked down. Ashlinn McMahon and Charlene Fanthorpe responded to the second goal with points for Cross to give them a four point cushion as they game entered added on time. Try as they did Brigid’s could only muster a last gasp point to leave Cross winners on a 1-10 to 2-4 scoreline.
