Hotel owners’ statement puts sale rumours to rest
The owners of Newry’s Canal Court Hotel have categorically denied the business has been sold, quashing rising speculation and rumours that have been circulating in recent weeks.
In a public statement posted on the Facebook page of its sister hotel, the Carrickdale, the McParland family said it has been saddened by the “totally unfounded rumours” which have caused distress to both staff and customers and wish to state publicly that the family-owned business is not for sale.
Declaring that the announcement would be the only comment made through media channels, the statement, signed by The McParland Family, read: “Over recent weeks, we have been asked by various customers and local businesses alike if there is any truth behind the rumour that the Canal Court Hotel & Spa has been sold. We would like to take this opportunity to publicly state that this family owned business is NOT for sale.
“We, as a family business, have invested heavily in the Canal Court Hotel & Spa and its sister property the Carrickdale Hotel & Spa over the years, bringing many jobs and opportunities to the local area – It saddens us to feel that someone has started these totally unfounded rumours, causing distress for our employees and customers alike. Up to this point, we as a company were not willing to acknowledge these rumours, however, for the sake of our employees and loyal customer base we have decided to respond.”
Pointing out recent refurbishments and developments in the hotels, the statement continued: “We are continually investing in both our hotels. The Canal Court’s bedrooms having been recently refurbished and our Granary Bar has just introduced a new Gin and Craft Beer Bar with live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night; and our Clanrye suite has been completely renovated, where it continues to be a stunning and popular wedding venue.
“We would like to thank our loyal patrons for your ongoing support of our businesses. We are fully committed to you and will continue to work hard to exceed guest expectations and make the Canal Court Hotel & Spa your ‘home from home’ in the heart of the city.
“We will not be making any further comment on this issue,” it concluded.
