Learn Irish with Armagh GAA

Armagh GAA is joining up with local Irish language community group CAIRDE Teo to offer an opportunity to those interested in Irish to learn our native tongue and to brush up on their language skills. Intensive Irish language courses will be held in the Athletic Grounds from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 21 January for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels. The cost of the courses will be £10. Cairde Teo and Armagh GAA have held similar courses before and they have proven to be extremely popular with learners from throughout Armagh and indeed from across Ulster attending our classes. The classes have also received the backing of a number of our inter-county stars, with senior hurling goalkeeper Simon Doherty and senior footballers Charlie Vernon, Oisín Mac Íomhair and Aidan Forker attending the classes to brush up on their Irish.

As part of the intensive courses, the Armagh GAA Culture Committee have also invited national Irish language group Conradh na Gaeilge to bring their Irish language roadshow, Our Shared Language, to the Athletic Grounds. The roadshow will feature a pop-up exhibition, as well as a talk by Réamonn Ó Ciaráin on the influence of Irish on the English language and a presentation by Seán Ó Maoilsté on recent Irish language development in Armagh. The roadshow will get underway at 11.30am with lunch being served at 1pm. Classes will recommence after lunch at 2pm. For more information on the intensive Irish course or to book a place in one of the classes, contact Seán on or 028 3751 5229.
