Local GAA stars in sleep-out for homeless
A number of current and former county GAA stars from the area took part in an overnight sleep-out on the streets of Belfast at the weekend, as part of an initiative to raise awareness of homelessness.
Armagh and Carrickcruppen’s Caroline O’Hanlon; sisters Sharon and Sinead Reel, Killeavy GFC; their fellow clubmate Steven McDonnell, and his former Armagh teammate Justin McNulty, were among the hundreds of past and present inter-county football, hurling and camogie players to participate in ‘Gaelic Voices for Change’, a solidarity sleep-out held simultaneously in 13 towns and cities across Ireland and North America on Saturday night last.
The ‘Gaelic Voices for Change’ is a wide-ranging initiative aiming to “shine a light on important social issues” beginning with homelessness. By yesterday (Sunday) almost €200k had been donated, with all money raised benefitting local and national homeless charities across the country.
