Local salons scoop top prizes at NI Hair and Beauty Awards

Hair and Beauty salons across Northern Ireland donned their most glamorous party attire for a night of dinner, dancing and award winning at last Sunday’s Hair and Beauty Awards held in the Europa Hotel in Belfast.

The prestigious event, which is in its second year in Northern Ireland, celebrates all those in the beauty industry who primp and preen to the highest of standards – from salons to the talented individuals who work within them.

Whether it’s a hair stylist that transforms tresses from dull to dazzling, a beautician who creates movie star magic, a salon that consistently provides an excellent environment, a talented newcomer to the industry or a veteran who has dedicated their lives to the profession, the awards provide a platform to recognise and thank those in the beauty industry for their creative talents.

Locally, those talents were recognised in all their glory, with a hat-trick of local hair and beauty salons sweeping the boards at the glittering ceremony.  There were double celebrations for Crossmaglen’s own Tir na nOg salon – crowned Hair Salon of the Year for County Armagh as well as scooping the Salon Design of the Year Award.

Proprietor Linda McCoy said she and her team were “thrilled” with their awards success and thanked all Tir na nOg’s loyal clients for their nominations.  Paying tribute to her “wonderful staff”, Linda thanked them for their hard work, talent and commitment and extended special thanks to her family and friends for their love and support.

Renowned hair salon Scissor Sister in Camlough also had cause for celebration, proudly picking up the Team/Service of the Year Award for County Down, while Beyond Vanity beauty salon in Newry completed the district’s hat-trick, scooping the Outstanding Salon of the Year Award at the black-tie ceremony which featured the cream of Northern Ireland’s Hair and Beauty industry.

Describing Beyond Vanity’s achievement as “totally unexpected”, Director Sonya Donnelly told The Examiner the team were “shocked to win such a prestigious award” and said it was a “great honour” to win the title amongst such high calibre competition.

“We were all delighted with the result and it was great to see all the hard work that Beauty Therapists and Hair Stylists put into their jobs every day being recognised in an award ceremony like this.

Thanking all of their “amazing clients” who took the time to nominate the Vanity Group, Sonya also paid tribute to her award winning stylists and beauticians.

“All credit has to be given to an outstanding team of ladies that work within the Vanity Group as a whole, especially the girls from the Beyond Vanity Salon who have worked so hard over the last 3 years.  It is down to the team’s hard work and effort that we are so successful today.

“We put so much effort into providing a great service to our clients, using only the best quality products and keeping up to date with training, enabling us to enhance the total client experience.

“On behalf of the entire Team at Vanity Salons, we sincerely thank all our clients – without their support this award would not have been possible.”

Scissor Sister proprietor Maria Kelly congratulated her entire team and said they were “delighted” to be crowned the regional winner for County Down in Team/Service award.

“Scissor Sister Hair, Beauty and Wig rooms are totally committed to offering excellent services and retail experience to all their clients both existing or new,” added Maria.

“Our staff members attend courses regularly in Dublin and Belfast to keep up to date with the latest trends, styles and legislations within the Hair and Beauty industries – all of which continues to provide clients with the 5 star service that we pride ourselves in.

“All our staff members are highly trained in all aspects of customer care so they were just delighted to be recognised  in this field.”
