Making a new year’s resolution?
The Southern Trust is offering FREE support for a ‘Smoke Free You’
The New Year is a great time for making a fresh start to improve health, including giving up smoking. Quitting smoking can be challenging, but is the best change which can be made to improve health with the benefits starting almost immediately after quitting and continuing throughout life. Help is at hand with the Southern Trust’s Stop Smoking Service which can offer free support to review personal triggers for smoking and develop a plan to help individuals quit successfully. Using Stop Smoking Support services will greatly improve a person’s chances of becoming a non-smoker, as does using Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). NRT reduces the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms associated with stopping smoking by replacing the nicotine from cigarettes. NRT is available in many forms including patches that deliver nicotine slowly through the skin, chewing gum, nasal and mouth sprays, inhalers and lozenges.Evidence suggests that if a smoker is able to remain smoke free for at least 28 days then they are five times more likely to quit smoking for good.Sixty two per cent of people using services in the Southern Trust area remained quit at 28 days. The Southern Trust has been making plans to support people to quit smoking and will be implementing Smoke Free sites Policy across all Trust premises on 9th March 2016 (No Smoking Day). This means that smoking will no longer be permitted by anyone on Trust grounds including car parks. Medical Director Richard Wright said: “Smoking is the principal cause of preventable illness and death across Northern Ireland. Implementing Smoke Free sites will encourage and support more people to consider giving up smoking. ” For more information and useful tips to stop smoking visit the Trust’s website http://www.southerntrust.hscni.net/livewell/1576.htm or PHA’s ‘Want 2 Stop’ website www.want2stop.info To make an appointment with the SHSCT Stop Smoking Service contact: 028 3741 5333or email@example.com Watch the Southern Trust’s YouTube video on the benefits of quitting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46pa-ez7SNE
