Premier League superstars Raheem Sterling and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have invested more than £1 million each into local sports technology firm STATSports.
This is a stunning coup for the Newry-based sports firm, who boast of prestigious clients such as; FC Barcelona, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus, PSG, and Man City, to name but a few.
STATSports use GPS monitoring tools which provides players and coaches with invaluable real-time updates on individual player performance.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who currently plays for Liverpool, said of his investment in STATSports: “Knowing the guys at STATSports, I am super excited for where this will go, the sky is the limit. I have chosen STATSports above all potential investments.
“It’s a brand and product I have known and trusted for the last 10 years of my footballing career. Working with STATSports at Southampton, Arsenal, Liverpool and with England, I know this is the best product on the market by far.”
STATSports is currently valued at over £200 million, and Raheem Sterling, currently of Manchester City, believes that the local firm has the potential to be a “billion dollar plus” company. He said: “I use STATSports technology every single day for both City and England and have done for years, so I know how valuable it is for getting the best out of me for the team.
“STATSports has already made a big name for itself in the elite game, but it’s clear to me that there is huge potential for the technology and that is why I’ve invested.”
This investment from global stars like Sterling and Oxlade-Chamberlain is good news not just for STATSports, but for the local economy.
Jarlath Quinn is one of STATSports directors and the architect of the Raheem Sterling and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain deals. He told The Examiner: “Obviously we’re proud to represent Newry and Northern Ireland on such a global scale. We’ve gone from strength to strength over the last few years and everyone at STATSports is excited by Alex and Raheem not just investing in the company, but becoming global ambassadors.
“And by having two massive international sport stars as shareholders of a company on the border, that can only benefit the local economy. You’d like to think that other major companies will recognize the talent we have here in Northern Ireland and they will be further enticed to locate here.”
