No serious injuries in four-car crash

The occupants of four cars were lucky to escape virtually unscathed from a horror crash on the Forkhill Road at Killeavy yesterday (Sunday) morning.

The multi-vehicle accident happened shortly before 10.00am near the Mulkearns Eurospar premises at Cloghogue.

Emergency services were called to the scene and members of the Fire Service used cutting equipment to free some of the casualties.

Several people were hurt in the collision though miraculously no one was seriously injured, and those requiring medical treatment were tended to at the scene by paramedics.

The road was closed to traffic for several hours to allow debris to be cleared and for police to carry out an investigation of the scene.  It reopened around 5.00pm.

Police have asked for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 382 of 26/3/17, or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
